YYC Calgary International Airport has launched an AI-driven passenger chatbot powered by Mappedin’s AI Navigator, providing conversational support to travellers via the airport website.
The web-based tool, which doesn’t require an app download, forms part of a broader set of digital tools that draw on the airport’s indoor mapping infrastructure to deliver information across planning, in-terminal displays and emerging interfaces.
Bart Smith, GM Corporate Services & IT Business Partners at Calgary Airports, said: “This launch deepens our long-standing innovation partnership with Mappedin and extends their mapping technology to include a real-time, generative AI solution.”
The chatbot combines indoor mapping with built-in geo-intelligence to give passengers information on airport navigation and travel needs in both Canadian French and English.
Users can ask questions such as “Is my flight leaving on time?”, “How do I get to Gate A21?” or “Where can I get coffee nearby?”, and receive responses that take into account their recent queries and terminal layout.
The system integrates indoor mapping with an AI-powered platform from Satisfi Labs, enabling the solution to provide generative responses alongside spatial context and multilingual accessibility. Mappedin says that this context-aware approach is intended to make journeys through the terminal more intuitive while reducing the burden of routine inquiries on airport staff.
Yuval Kossovsky, Managing Director of Transportation at Mappedin, said that operational pressures are driving such deployments.
“Airports face unprecedented passenger volume growth, and it is difficult to staff at levels that keep pace with the demand for real-time, personalised assistance.”
