Vienna Airport pilots AI for passenger guidance
Vienna Airport is testing a conversational AI platform from Hubway as part of a pilot project focused on passenger orientation within the terminal. The trial is taking place in a selected gate area and is intended to assess how travellers interact with AI-based guidance tools in a live airport environment.
The system allows passengers within the pilot zone to receive step-by-step guidance through a browser-based interface. Using an indoor semantic map of the terminal, the platform provides directions and information to help passengers navigate the airport environment.
“This conversational AI pilot is designed to address common passenger pain points inside the terminal – such as finding their way, getting real-time updates about flights or gates, and quickly accessing airport services– so travellers can get the information they need instantly without searching for staff or navigating complex signage,” Hubway Co-Founder & CEO Samuel Chekroun told the Airports AI Alliance.
The service supports more than 90 languages and can be accessed directly through a web browser without requiring an app download or the input of personal data.
Hubway has previously deployed its platform at several airports in France. The collaboration with Vienna Airport marks the company’s first venture in the Austrian market and forms part of its efforts to expand the use of conversational AI across major European aviation hubs.
